Are women’s representations in horror films to satisfy the male audience through the gaze?  Speaker:  This presentation has been put together to identify whether women representation within horror films are used to satisfy the male audience. My three focus films are good examples of the representation of women as they all have a common theme which is how women are represented as the victims.  Projector: Scene from Nightmare on Elm street 2010 (item 1) - Kris's death (4 minutes 28 seconds) In this scene from Nightmare on Elm street Kris and her boyfriend lying in a bed with low key lighting, this makes the scene more dramatic and allows the audience too feel the uneasy mood. The representation of women within this first shot is shown as sexualised as the women is wearing shorts with her legs exposed, whereas the man has a sheet over him, revealing no skin. This supports the Laura Mulvey theory the male gaze as (Item 4) "in a world ordered by sexual imbalance, pleasur

Exam Question

Compare the attitudes to poverty conveyed in the films you have studied for this topic In the film La Haine poverty is shown in a variety of different way, such as the scene in where Vinz, Said and Hubert arrive in Paris to visit a friend of Said's. As soon as they walk into the building, there is a medium tracking shot of Said as he takes his hat off, this shows his respect towards the upperclass and shows how he is out of his element as back in the projects he would leave his hat on. A pan right is also used to show Said looking around the building looking out of place and dazed. This shows their attitude towards poverty as they seem out of their element in the mise en scene of this house. A low angle shot of Hubert, Vinz and Said is also shown with Said in the front as he is the leader, bringing vinz and hubert together, this makes Said the fraternity.  As Hubert, Vinz and Said approach the door to try and get in, they are immediately locked out, this shows the uppercla

Horror Genre

Horror Genre  Are women’s representations in horror films to satisfy the male audience through the gaze?  Films Item 1:  Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 I have chosen this film because women are represented as vulnerable and weak in this film, also it offers a range of shots and camera angles that stresses the horror genre. Also women are represented as the victim, which is something i can talk about which relates to my question. I have used this film because i want to compare it to the 1984 version, and compare how women are represented differently in the different years and how its evolved over time. This is a good film to use because it shows how women are represented within the horror genre.  Item 2:  Wrong Turn 2003 I have chosen this film as the women are represented also as victims, however within this film, there is two representing of women, the clumsy women who dies first and the heroic women who survives at the end. I will talk about how
