The Shining

At the start of this clip there is a close up point of view shot of the women looking at the pieces of paper. This shot shows me what the woman sees through her eyes, telling me its important.  The camera then cuts to a low angle shot of the women. using this particular shot shows the audience her facial expression better as she looks scared. Also there is medium close up shot, showing some of the background behind the women and all of the women face.
The camera suddenly cuts to a long shot of the women looking through the papers. The camera pans right to left, as if someone is coming from behind the wall, making me feel tense and on edge. The camera continues to pan right to left, to show a long shot of the women, however it reveals more of the setting and it makes me feel like someone is sneaking up behind the women.

As the camera complete comes out into the open of the setting and not behind the wall, a silhouette of a person comes to view in front of the camera, making me feel like something bad is going to happen as it feels like he is sneaking up behind her. Also the camera is placed behind the silhouette of the person, at a almost over the shoulder shot, to show the whole scene. As the man speaks saying "how do you like it", the women instantly turns around with a bat in her hand, showing she is scared an is using the bat to protect her, which links to miss en scene as a prop.

There is then a tracking backwards medium shot of Jack walking towards his wife Wendy, this shot makes me feel rigid as it feels like Jack is walking towards me. The camera then zoom out, showing more of the background. The camera then cuts to a medium close up of the women, holding the bat to her body, this shows she is frightened and scared of her husband, and it makes me feel worried for the women. Also the dialogue shows she is scared as she stutters and can not seem to form a sentence without her voice shaking.

The camera then cuts to a medium long shot of Jack, looking through the papers. This shot makes me feel on edge, as the non-diegetic music plays when Jack is talking, making me feel more nervous.
The camera then tracks backwards as Jack begins to walk forward to Wendy, making me feel anxious, as well as a tracking forward shot of Wendy walking backward, showing she wants to be away from Jack.

There is then cut to a different shot of a room that is completely red with furniture moving like there is a river inside the room. This could mean danger as red symbolises death/danger. The camera then cuts back to a tracking backwards shot of Jack.

As the camera continues to track backwards as Jack walks, there is then a low angle medium shot of Wendy as she climbs the steps with the bat in her hand as she is protecting herself, this shot makes me feel sympathy for Wendy as she scared.

In the first show we Jack at medium close up shot, as he is talking to Wendy in their bedroom. There is then a cut to a close up of Wendy as she looks distressed as her eyes are red and her mouth is slightly open, this makes me feel sympathetic towards her as she looks scared. There is then a shot reverse shot, showing the dialogue between Wendy and Jack as they are talking about something serious.

There is then a straight cut of a medium close up of Danny lying in his bed looking shocked and then the camera begins to zoom in on Danny's face, which shows his emotions more clearly as he looks terrified. There is then a cut to a low angle close up shot of a door, with the words murder written on it, but backwards. The writing is in red which connotes danger and as the word that is written is "murder" it tells me something bad is going to happen. Then there is a cut straight back to Danny lying bed, this tells me what Danny is seeing that is making him look scared and shocked is the door with the word murder written on it.
